why VONK

Over 20 years developing and delivering graphic design for private enterprise, not-for-profit, and government clients in Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium and USA—creating a wide range of high-quality digital, print, publishing, packaging and environmental projects.

I bring to each project a bespoke approach, to bridge the perilous gap between a great initial idea and a polished product, delivered on time and on budget.

I have brought the sensibilities of my Dutch training and experience to my Australian practice, so I’ve named my business VONK, a Dutch word meaning ‘spark’.

The ‘sparks’ of creativity, realisation or wonderment have always intrigued me in various stages of a design job:

… When sitting with a client——the moment we become ‘in-tune’ and start to work together on resolving their particular design problem.

… A word or example a client shares which clicks, and I start to conceive a design concept that wasn’t there a moment ago.

… Finding an image or a scrap of information, that suddenly sets the design process fully into play.

… Refining design sketches——honing in on a version that meets all the criteria necessary to deliver the desired outcome.

… The first presentation where a client gets where I’m coming from——especially when I surprised them, whilst still matching the original brief.

… When artwork arrives and it’s printed perfectly——between you and the client you’ve brought something new and worthwhile into the world!

… When I take that first look at a live website I’ve designed… and I know the online visitors will love how it works!

… A client calling it a ‘logo moment’ when an icon I designed for them was mimicked by a child leaping airborne! Best response I’ve ever had to a logo design!
