why VONK

Your story sparks my creativity, imagination and passion to help you solve problems and create something authentic, meaningful and purpose-driven, beyond just pretty design.

For over 20 years I have developed and delivered design solutions for private enterprise, not-for-profit, and government clients globally. I bring concept-driven sensibilities of a Dutch design education and extensive experience to my practice.

‘Vonk’ is a Dutch word meaning ‘spark’. The ‘sparks of creativity’ have always inspired me in various stages of a design job. Here is why:

… When sitting with a client——the moment we become ‘in-tune’ and start to work together on resolving their particular problem.

… A word or example a client shares that clicks——starting the beginning of a design journey or concept that wasn’t there a moment ago.

… When researching——finding an image or a scrap of information, that suddenly sets the design process fully into play.

… Refining design sketches——honing in on a version that meets all the criteria necessary to deliver the desired outcome.

… The presentation——when a client clearly gets where the design solution is coming from.

… When the job is done——it goes live, or the client is holding the product, and responds with enthusiasm——we’ve brought something new, innovative and impactful into the world.

A client once described the concept of a ‘logo moment’. It was a not-for-profit child behavioural therapy centre called Kids Xpress (www.kidsxpress.org.au), using movement as a tool to help kids deal with trauma. As part of the pro-bono work, I developed their brand identity using a child jumping up in the air, forming an X with their arms and legs. One day, the client told us, that one of the kids in the program spontaneously mimicked the X-shaped logo by leaping airborne——”…an instant logo moment!”, she said. It was the best response ever, to a design.
